Hello, this post will be about conectors. So, there are propably hundreds of thousands types of connectors, each having (propably) different use. So, what can we declare as a connector? Well, I would say that the main rule is propably that it transfers eighter optical or electrical analog/digital signal. So, what do I like about different types of connectors? Lets begin by doing some examples and what I like about them. USB-A - I really do like this connector, its universal and supports preety high speeds, as well as power transfer. Serial connector - Propably the best connector! It allows you to connect preety much any digital device to preety much any other device, and its still widely used in alot of servers, etc. Micro/Full size SD-Card connector - In fact, we can count this as connector too! And this one is really great, as it provides reliable connection to the sd card. Now, lets talk about bad connectors. MicroUSB - MicroUSB is known to be really really breakable by accident, etc. From my personal experience, I would tell average micro-usb will survive 10k plugs/unplugs at best. MicroHDMI - Microhdmi was breaking alot and it is also so hard to solder, it could be declared a really bad connector. Ligtning Cable - Even tho its amazing durability, it only supported USB 2.0 speeds, which is insane giving the fact that apple used it until late 2023. That was not the conectors problem however, its a design fault that they used it poinlessly for so long. So, what are the primarily factors of a good connector? Durability - If the connector doesn't support more than 100 000uses, then it is really bad connector(and yes, I am talking about micro usb here) Reliability - The connector should not accidentaly disconnect under any normal circuimstances(obviously, excluding high/really low temperature, someone accidentally disconnecting the cable etc.). Size - The connector should be able to be manually soldered by any soldering iron from last 30years. So, no microsoldering on a stupid connector!(unless its required to by its use obviously) Speed - Connector should not be the bottleneck when connecting devices with the intended speeds that the connector shoul've been designed for. So, what is(atleast according to me) the best connector? The answer might not surprise you, but its the enthernet connector(the one used in Cat5E cables). This one can be plugged preety much infinite times, and will still work. Majority of the 8 cables(commonly around 6) can be cut off with the signal still working! Obviously with lower speeds, but it works so.. But obviously the speed of this connector is very high if all the cables are connected correctly. And power delivery? Well, PoE commonly does that preety good. Obviously you can't use this connector everywhere, but its preety usefull nonoftheless. Thanks for reading.. nobody is tho so its preety uselless anyway.
